Size Guide — Imperial Riding Headcollars

How to Find Your Headcollar Size

Imperial Riding headcollars are available in three standard sizes — Pony, Cob, and Full — to fit most horses and ponies. Use a soft measuring tape to measure around your horse's head at the broadest point (just below the cheekbones). You can also measure an existing headcollar that fits well.

Size Chart

Size Suitable For Typical Height Range Nose Circumference (approx.)
Pony Small ponies, Shetlands, young horses Up to 13.2hh 36–40 cm
Cob Large ponies, native breeds, cobs, finer Thoroughbreds 13.2hh – 15.2hh 40–44 cm
Full Most Warmbloods, Thoroughbreds, sport horses 15.2hh and above 44–48 cm

Tips for Getting the Right Fit

  • You should be able to fit two fingers under the noseband — any tighter and it will restrict movement; any looser and the headcollar may slip off.
  • The cheekpiece should sit flat against your horse's cheek, neither pulling the noseband up toward the eyes nor sitting too low on the nose.
  • If your horse is between sizes, we recommend sizing up for comfort.
