Imperial Riding Fly Exercise Rug - Royce
Use this size guide to find the correct rug size for your horse. Imperial Riding rugs are labelled using both UK rug sizing (feet) and US blanket sizing (inches) — both describe the same rug length.
How to measure your horse for a rug:
- Bottom length (also the EU Size on the chart) — measure along the side of the horse, from the middle of the chest, around the shoulder, to the end of the quarters (just past the point of the buttock). This is the standard measurement used for UK and US rug sizing.
- Top length — measure in a straight line along the back, from the base of the neck (at the withers) to the base of the tail.
- Horse height — measured from the ground to the top of the withers. Use the hands (hh) column if you know your horse's height in hands, or centimetres if you've measured with a height stick.
If your horse falls between two sizes, or is broader or deeper-built than average, it's usually best to size up.

This size chart is a guideline. Always keep the shape and build of your individual horse in mind — broader, deeper-built, or heavily-muscled horses may need to size up. Measurements in feet (UK) and inches (US) refer to the length of the rug along the bottom edge.
The Royce is Imperial Riding's fly-exercise blanket — a lightweight, 100% polyester rug built to be ridden in, not just left on turnout. The breathable mesh construction includes UV protection and quick-dry properties, so it copes with a sweaty schooling session as well as it copes with a day in the field.
That's really what separates an exercise blanket from a standard fly rug: Royce is cut to stay put and stay comfortable with a rider on board, protecting against flies and biting insects through the ride rather than needing to come off first. The chest fastens with a three-point buckle, Velcro and hook closure, quick to do up and secure enough not to shift around during work. The UV protection does double duty against coat bleaching over a full summer of turnout, too.
